Autumn Woman, Harvest Queen is a one-day workshop in which to explore (PERI)MENOPAUSE as a powerful rite of passage in a woman’s life, often feared and misunderstood.

As our fertility wanes, we move from the Summer season of our lives to the Autumn. This is a time to CLAIM our harvest, EMBODY our wisdom and LEAD our communities!

The Red Thread Birth Trauma Conversation with Rhea Dempsey @rheadempseybirth and me was a wonderful evening, a fundraiser for Hygieia Health @hygieiahealth_org. Rhea shared her knowledge and wisdom in her unique and epic way. We explored the birth legacies from our Red Thread/Mother Line and performed a ritual using the threefold prayers, aligning with the energy of the full moon and spring to call in healing and hope for ourselves, our communities, and the Earth.

Remembering the wisdom of the cycles, and understanding where menopause fits in the cycle of our life, is very helpful information for making sense of what’s going on. Menopause marks the beginning of the autumn season of our life, and just like the earth in autumn, our experience of menopause is shaped by everything that has grown up until that point. Autumn is a time for feedback, and the feedback we receive during menopause mirrors the energy of the same phase in the menstrual cycle. Our inner autumn, or week three of our menstrual cycle, is a feedback time, showing the results and effects on our body of how well, or not well, we cared for ourselves during our bleeding phase. It’s the same with menopause; often, what arises are physical issues that may have started earlier in life, as well as healing needed for the inner child and maiden. The transformational opportunities of this phase are the gifts. Happy Menopause Day.

The inspiration behind creating this app came from women seeking more knowledge about their bodies and the menstrual cycle. Many women expressed a desire to better understand the importance of the menstrual cycle and the women’s mysteries surrounding it. A common question asked was, “What’s one thing I can do to start on this path?” The answer has always been simple: Track your menstrual cycle. The Spinning Wheels App offers a cycle calendar where users can easily record their experiences and track their cycles. This process helps women make more sense of their bodies and understand how to work with their natural rhythms. Join us for an evening of discussing the impact of birth culture across generations. The event is called Red Thread Birth Trauma: A Conversation with Jane and Rhea @rheadempseybirth. We will look at the system and birth practices, the culture from the 1940s to the 2020s, and the legacy handed down to us all. We’ll explore how this has affected our grandmothers, mothers, daughters, granddaughters, and the individual woman’s experience of meeting the birth culture. I spoke about many things I feel passionately about, including how our experience of menarche can influence our experience of pregnancy and birth. The conversation focused on how birth professionals can better support women during pregnancy and birth. This included discussing the spiritual practice of menstruation and the need for childbirth preparation to start well before pregnancy, ideally at menarche, or even earlier! We explored the connection between one’s relationship with their menstrual cycle and their experience of giving birth, as well as reclaiming the sacred and shamanic dimensions of pregnancy and birth, and how to bring these elements into today’s medicalised birth culture, and much more.
